In 1964, Uriel Nielson planted Santa Barbara County's first commercial vineyard along the windswept Santa Maria Bench. More than five decades later, the remote maritime appellation is considered one of California's finest regions for cool climate grapes. The Nielson Estate is located on the site of Mr. Nielson's original vineyard and each vintage we continue to source from this historic site. We also produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and limited quantities of Rhone-style wines from some of Santa Barbara County's most celebrated vineyards. We use small-lot winemaking techniques such as hand pruning, block-by-block harvesting, barrel fermentations and lees stirring to create wines that capture the culture, lifestyle and flavour of Santa Barbara County.
