In 1964, Uriel Nielson planted Santa Barbara County's first commercial vineyard along the windswept Santa Maria Bench. Four decades later, the remote maritime appellation is considered one of California's finest regions for cool climate grapes. The Nielson Estate is located on the site of Mr. Nielson's original vineyard. At Nielson, we honor the vision and persistence of our namesake, as we continue to harvest grapes from the best parts of this coastal enclave. Since the early 1980’s Santa Barbara County has been recognized as one of California’s great wine regions. The mild climate and sandy soils make this the perfect locale for cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
