Evesham Wood
AVA - Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
Founded by Russ Raney in 1986, Evesham Wood is based on the idea that small is beautiful. To maintain a high level of quality, Russ relied on two basic principles: obtaining optimally ripe low-yield fruit from the best possible sites in the Willamette Valley, and using minimal intervention in the winemaking process. That approach is alive and well today, and is evident in every bottle they produce. After twenty plus years, Russ and his wife Mary began working closely with Erin Nuccio, who is the owner of boutique label Haden Fig. Not only did the founders see an opportunity to retire early, but also in Erin, someone who would continue the Evesham Wood legacy and make wine using the same philosophies. In August 2010, Erin and his wife, Jordan, became the owners of Evesham Wood Winery and Le Puits Sec Vineyard.
Today, still unpretentious and maintaining high quality, Evesham Wood produces complex, multi-layered, single-vineyard pinot noirs at fair and reasonable prices. The styles here lean toward black fruit characters, barnyardiness and silken textures. The wines are not filtered prior to bottling so as to preserve texture and flavour complexity.
The Le Puits Sec estate vineyard obtained organic certification in 2000. Since 2005 Evesham Wood has been associated with the international organic/biodynamic organisation 'Renaissance des Appellations' , whose members are required to adhere to rigid organic and quality standards.
